Program Description
Since 1975, UPMC Altoona Family Physicians has provided quality family medicine training for Central Pennsylvania and beyond. Our 8-8-8 residency program is the sole residency at UPMC Altoona and has received Osteopathic Recognition for its strong osteopathic experience. Our residents learn full-spectrum family medicine with outstanding training in rural medicine, underserved care, social determinants of health, and community engagement. Our curriculum can be personalized through individual curriculum concentrations (similar to tracks) and maximum elective time. Residents also rotate through a variety of family medicine specialty clinics including weight management, diabetes, OMM, and musculoskeletal/ultrasound. We work to ensure our residents feel supported and have a good work-life balance with a robust resident wellness program. We have 10 full-time faculty with an array of experiences in family medicine along with a dedicated behavioral scientist, social worker, and clinical pharmacist. The Altoona area combines the activities of a small metropolitan area with the scenic beauty of a rural location. Our region offers year-round outdoor recreational activities, cultural events, and a variety of excellent shopping and dining choices that will be sure to keep you busy.
