Program Description
The PIH Health-Whittier Family Medicine Residency Program was established with an emphasis in community-based teaching and offers a hybrid experience with LA General Medical Center in Los Angeles. We serve both Los Angeles County and Orange County, and are conveniently located between the two. Our mission is to provide our residents with a rich, broad-based and multidisciplinary graduate medical education built on a culturally competent foundation. Our residents provide care to underserved socio-economic populations and multi-cultural communities where they establish their roles as community health providers. We offer an exemplary model of working as a collaborative healthcare team that includes hospital and ambulatory specialists, allied health providers, behavioral specialist and community partners. Residents in this program will get strong experience in inpatient medicine, women's health, care of the elderly, and procedural care. Our program also offers two specialized, longitudinal tracks: Chronic Disease/Palliative Care and Tropical Medicine. Residents in these tracks get specialized training and unique elective experiences. The Tropical medicine electives occur abroad in West Africa.
