Our program provides a supportive and nurturing educational environment that is rich with learning opportunity. We serve both the traditional surburban community of Grand Blanc, Michigan as well as a wonderfully diverse segment of underserved patients from Flint, Michigan and other urban parts of Genesee County. The anchor of our program is our Family Health Health Center, which is a beautiful faciltiy providing ampule space for all of our residents and faculty to care for patients together. Here, we provide over 24,000 outpatient visits yearly. Our relationship with our patients extends well outside our clinic doors to include providing medical support for local road races, participation by residents in public school educational programs, and many other outreach activities enjoyed by both faculty and residents. Our Family Medicine Inpatient Service is housed at Genesys Regional Medical Center, a 410-bed hospital in Grand Blanc, MIchigan, and is attended by our family medicine faculty. This service features robust inpatient experience including Neuro-Trauma ICU, MICU, CICU, Pedatrics, Code Stroke, as well as opportunities for formal credentilaing in central venous lines, arterial lines, intubation, and ventilator management. Importantly, all of our interns first perform these procedures in our Genesys Simulation Skills Lab which provides for anxiety-free skill acquisition and refinement. Our program is further strengthened by our affiliation with Michigan State University, which brings us world-class monthly didactic sessions, enhanced leadership training for residents, and increased opportunities in public health and preventive medicine with the recent arrival of the MSU School of Pulic Health to their Flint Campus. In addition, every month our residents join other community physicians to attend a day-long, primary-care focused regional CME conference hosted by our hospital. Our residents also rotate for one month in each of their two years at the nearby Hurley Medical Center. Here they receive invaluable training in tertiary-care pediatric inpatient medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. These training months perfectly complement the inpatient pediatrics and newborn care experience that occurs on the Family Medicine Inpatient Services, and they ensure that our graduates are completely confident caring pediatric patients.
