Description

With over 40 years since our establishment, Doctors Hospital Family Medicine Residency has continually transformed to meet the needs of our learners and our patients. We are a community medicine program affiliated with Doctors Hospital, a training site under Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) located just outside Columbus, Ohio. Our program has an ambulatory focus with emphasis on delivering inclusive and quality healthcare for patients from urban, suburban, and rural areas. Training physicians have a longitudinal ambulatory experience at the office in Grove City, OH with progressive responsibility for all aspects of patient care. Our clinical faculty and community preceptors offer a diverse panel of experience, and they share one common goal: To train well-rounded physicians. Program strengths: • Residents from across the country bring unique perspectives and areas of knowledge to share with peers and faculty • In-house behavioral and pharmacy services assist our training physicians in delivering equitable health, always taking into account healthcare disparities and social determinants of health • Community medicine opportunities through a mobile unit called Wellness on Wheels help our trainees care for patients with more challenging demographics • Practice management and business office rotations offer unique training for our residents to understand the operational side of medical practice • Osteopathic concepts and curricula have allowed us a variety of resources to train osteopathic and allopathic trainees to apply OMT • Areas of concentrations present a unique opportunity for our trainees to build their practice niche while in residency, including but not limited to pediatric medicine, obesity medicine, sports medicine, academic medicine, and women’s health • Didactic schedules incorporate dedicated time for board review, personal development, professional development, as well as clinical and procedural skills • A variety of educational resources including SonoSim ultrasound training software, Rosh Review, CoreCases for Family Medicine, and Johns Hopkins Pediatric modules complement didactic learning Graduates of our program are practicing all over the country in a variety of settings, in both primary care and specialty practices. Our alumni have moved on to achieve positions such as: • Team physicians for National and Olympic sports teams • Members of executive boards for local, state, and national medical organizations • Owners of unique practice structures, including wellness-oriented healthcare, direct primary care, and sports medicine • Residency and fellowship directors across the country • Administrative leaders of hospitals and medical schools across the country
