Program Description

Founded in 2022, our newly established Family Medicine residency program provides comprehensive, high-quality, family-centered care to all patients, every encounter. Our clinical and educational mission is to provide compassionate, team-based healthcare in a culturally attuned, cost-effective manner. Uniquely located at the US-Mexico border of South Texas, our training program provides a unique opportunity to deliver comprehensive, patient centered care while serving a diverse community and patient population, rich in culture and socioeconomic backgrounds. We work to meet the educational mission and needs of our program while advancing healthcare disparities and improving access to care. We foster a warm and friendly, service oriented environment where our residents thrive as they become primary care clinician leaders, scholars, advocates and lifelong learners. We have a wide variety of specialty clinical rotations across the DHR campus and health system including a level-1 trauma center, women's hospital, heart hospital, behavioral health hospital, orthopedic and sports medicine institute, urgent care, and much more. We also offer unique rotations to enhance diverse skills (eg. Point of Care Ultrasound, healthcare disparities and border medicine).
