Part 2: The Future of EHRs
How will value-based care affect the development of EHRs in the future?
Most EHR systems currently on the market were developed 10 to 20 years ago in response to fee-for-service requirements. At that time, the goal was to document patient visits and services to maximize billing and payment. Cut to the present, when physicians are being asked to use those same EHR systems to help them achieve a much more complex goal: the Quadruple Aim of enhancing patient experience, improving population health, reducing costs, and improving the work life of clinicians and staff. Since existing EHRs aren’t up to the task, daily frustrations abound.
