Foster mentorship, collaboration, communication, and support among AAFP members with careers and interests in academic family medicine.

Objectives

  • Showcase academic family medicine as a career choice for students, residents, early career physicians, and other AAFP members
  • Connect members to an experienced family physician in academics with similar interest who can serve as a mentor
  • Improve collaborative academic activities between academic medicine members

Long-term Goals

  • Develop dynamic reciprocal relationships in the family medicine community between advanced- career (mentor) and early- career physicians, medical students, residents, or any family physicians seeking mentoring aimed at promoting the professional development of both.
  • Support the professional development of members, regardless of practice setting, who are seeking an academic promotion (e.g., Community community Preceptor preceptor whose institution is affiliated with a university).
  • Provide an opportunity to connect members with similar interests who desire to build a career in academic medicine.
  • Serve as a positive influence on academic career success.
  • Facilitate career guidance for members seeking a focus area in academic family medicine (e.g., Women’s health, Sports medicine, Sleep medicine, Geriatrics, Palliative Care, Informatics)
