• Organizations: Apply for NHSC Assignments by June 20

June 07, 2018 03:39 pm News Staff – Family physicians who know of, or work in, health care organizations that collaborate with the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) should make note of a fast-approaching deadline.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) posted a notice in the May 21 Federal Register regarding compilation of a list of proposed entities set to receive priority assignments of NHSC scholarship program participants who are available for service from Oct. 1, 2018 through Sept. 30, 2019.

Mark June 20 on the calendar if yours is an organization looking to be included on that list -- or if your organization thinks it should be granted a higher priority designation.

Documentation to support such requests must be submitted in writing to Beth Dillon, director of HRSA's division of regional operations for the Bureau of Health Workforce, 1961 Stout St., Denver, CO 80294.

Check HRSA's Health Workforce Connector website for a searchable database of NHSC-approved service sites and their health professional shortage area (HPSA) scores.

As outlined in the HRSA scholarships program application guide, the NHSC utilizes HPSA scores to determine which areas have the greatest shortages. Entities in those areas are first in line to receive NHSC scholars.

HRSA officials will consider any new information it receives before the deadline as it prepares its final NHSC priority assignments list.
