The AAFP has named Robert Watchinski, C.P.A., to fill the newly created position of vice president for financial and administrative services at Academy headquarters in Leawood, Kan. He also will retain his current role and responsibilities as the AAFP's chief financial officer.
In his new post, Watchinski will oversee the Academy's Administration Division and the Information Technology Division, in addition to the Finance and Accounting Division he currently oversees, for a total of about 75 staff members. He will be responsible for the financial operations of the Academy, including financial reporting, budgets, investments and cash management; will act as a financial consultant to the AAFP Board of Directors and the Academy's EVP, deputy EVP, and vice presidents; and will serve as staff executive to the Commission on Finance and Insurance.
Watchinski joined the AAFP management team in 1993 as the organization's first chief financial officer. Before coming to the Academy, he served as associate executive director of finance for Humana Prime Health. Previously, he was senior vice president of finance for Prime Health Management Services Inc., and coordinated the conversion of that not-for-profit corporation to the for-profit Humana Prime Health in 1990.
Watchinski holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he graduated cum laude.
