Starting March 1, the AAFP Contact Center will be renamed the "Member Resource Center" but it will continue to be the trusted source for members who need assistance.
Mayly Yang, manager of member support and operations for the Academy, told AAFP News that the new name will better reflect what the department does for members.
"We like to think of ourselves as a one-stop shop," she said. "Whether they have questions about their membership status, what benefits are available to them, how to report CME or where to find a particular AAFP resource, we are here to assist members and help meet their professional needs."
Yang said this approach has been well-received by members, who often tell her how helpful, courteous and professional the support staff is.
"Just recently, a long-term member contacted us to let us know she was at the end of her career so would not be continuing her membership," Yang said. "After explaining her options, which she didn't know were available to her, she retained her membership and couldn't be happier.
"We value each and every member and the staff in the Member Resource Center is available to make sure members get the most out of their membership."
Yang said the phone number for members to call remains the same (800-274-2237) but the email address has changed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
