  • Publicize Your Family Physician of the Year Award

December 10, 2020, 10:24 am News Staff -- The AAFP recently announced the Family Physician of the Year during its annual meeting. During this year when FPs have had to navigate innumerable pandemic-induced clinical challenges, bear the accompanying financial strain and go above and beyond to care for patients, the Academy bestowed the award on all family physicians.

As AAFP CEO/EVP Shawn Martin said Oct. 16 during the virtual Family Medicine Experience, “It didn’t seem right to select just one recipient this year.”

The Academy wants to provide you with opportunities to publicize your well-deserved honor to your patients and remind your community that your extraordinary efforts to provide continuous, comprehensive care form the critical foundation that’s keeping the U.S. health care system strong during the pandemic. The AAFP has created a Family Physician of the Year certificate that you can download, personalize and display in your practice or other settings.

AAFP President Ada Stewart, M.D., said the unique approach to the award in this most unusual of years was taken “in recognition of our members’ continued dedication, commitment and sacrifice to the specialty of family medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The Academy, your patients, communities and our nation will be forever grateful,” Stewart said. “The unprecedented events of this year will be marked in our hearts and minds, and this is a small token of our appreciation in recognition of all that you do every day.”
