April 2, 2021, 4:17 p.m. News Staff — The AAFP Board of Directors recently approved creation of a new member interest group focused on intersectionality in health care.
The stated purpose of the Intersectionality in Healthcare MIG is to “provide a forum for members to organize and advocate for health care equity and racial and social justice, and discuss their personal experiences with implicit and explicit bias.”
The chair of the new MIG is Patricia Chico, M.D., and the vice chair is Margarette Shegog, M.D., M.P.H. The MIG is overseen by the Commission on Health of the Public and Science.
The MIGs give AAFP members a forum where they can network and share ideas. To date, the Board has approved 24 MIGs since the Academy first launched these groups in 2014.
Members who have questions about MIGs are encouraged to email MIG support for more information.
