Big changes are coming on how physicians are paid under the Medicare program, and for many family physicians, now is the right time to begin transitioning to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)(qpp.cms.gov) portion of CMS' Quality Payment Program(qpp.cms.gov).
To make sure those first steps taken are in the right direction, join CMS payment experts for a free webinar on Feb. 1 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. ET.
This presentation is geared specifically toward the needs of physicians in small, rural and underserved practices that often operate with fewer resources than their colleagues in larger practices.
According to the CMS announcement(engage.vevent.com) -- which includes registration information -- presenters will discuss eligibility, participation options for 2017 and an overview of the four MIPS performance categories, which are defined as
- Quality (replaces the Physician Quality Reporting System),
- Improvement Activities (represents a new category),
- Advancing Care Information (replaces the Medicare electronic health record incentive program, also referred to as meaningful use), and
- Cost (replaces value-based modifier).
The audio portion of the webinar will be broadcast via the Internet.
Have your questions ready; CMS will make phone lines available for the Q&A portion of this event.
And remember, the AAFP also has a variety of resources available to help family physicians understand and succeed in all aspects of the U.S. health care system's shift to value-based payment.
