    The number of Americans diagnosed with high blood pressure -- a strong risk factor for heart attacks -- is cause for concern as America observes National Heart Month. The American Academy of Family Physicians is helping to raise awareness and share evidence-based information to help patients achieve optimal heart health.

    The American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Physicians jointly developed this guideline to present the evidence and provide clinical recommendations based on the benefits and harms of higher versus lower blood pressure targets for the treatment of hypertension in adults aged 60 years or older.
