Heads up to family physicians who participate in the federal government's Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS): CMS recently announced(www.cms.gov) that an ongoing computer system update is scheduled for completion on July 13.
According to the agency, the Enterprise Identity Management (EIDM) system(www.cms.gov) provides physicians and others professionals who do business with CMS a single "user ID" that enables them to access multiple CMS applications.
The agency is retiring its Individuals Authorized Access to the CMS Computer Services (IACS) system, and current IACS user accounts will automatically transfer to the EIDM system.
To ensure a smooth transition of data to the new system, CMS urges physicians and other users to take a few minutes to log in to their current IACS accounts to ensure they are active and up-to-date.
Additional information on the transition will be available in coming weeks. In the meantime, physicians can direct questions about the transition to the QualityNet help desk. Call (866) 288-8912 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT Monday through Friday or email the help desk.
CMS cautions physicians against including personal identifying information -- such as a Social Security number or tax identification number -- when making email inquiries.
CMS' EIDM Migration User Guide(cms.gov) provides physicians with overviews and step-by-step instructions on how to register for user IDs and passwords and how to submit requests for access to the former IACS applications that now are supported by EIDM.
