Family physicians who participate in Medicare should take a little time in coming days to preview details related to their 2014 quality measurement reporting before the information is posted on CMS' Physician Compare website.(www.cms.gov)
Physicians and other eligible professionals have until Nov. 16 to preview their data -- a CMS extension of nearly two weeks beyond the normal 30-day preview window.
Creation of the website was mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in an effort to help consumers find physicians and other health care professionals who provide Medicare services.
The site, which launched on Dec. 30, 2010, provides important details about physicians such as contact information, clinical training information and hospital affiliation.
The website also is intended to encourage good clinical performance on the part of physicians and, as such, provides information about physicians who successfully participate in CMS quality programs such as the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and the Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program.
During the next several years, the site will phase in publication of physician information related to additional quality markers associated with those programs.
Physicians who enter the site now will have the chance to preview their 2014 PQRS quality measures(www.cms.gov) the information is available to the general public.
CMS encourages all physicians and other eligible health care professionals to review their data as early in the preview period as possible.
The agency has provided participants step-by-step instructions(www.cms.gov) on how to access their information.
