Feb. 17, 2023, News Staff — One of the chief roles of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is to ensure that certified EHR technology and other certified health IT meets the technological capability, functionality and security requirements HHS has adopted.
With many certified health IT products having updated to comply with the 21st Century Cures Act final rule requirements that went into effect Dec. 31, 2022, some health care professionals and organizations may have questions on how to generate their CMS IDs for 2022 reporting purposes when the older versions of their products have been withdrawn.
Fortunately, this task can be easily accomplished using the Certified Health IT Product List’s search functionalities.
To find the right product in CHPL, select “Browse all” to the right of the CHPL landing page’s main search window. Next, select the “Certification Status” filter and then click “Select All.” Using this method, you’ll see not only the “Active” product listings but also any that may have been withdrawn when the developer added newer Cures Update-compliant versions.
Pro tip: Be sure the correct version is selected when adding to your CMS Certification ID because many developers have multiple withdrawn versions. As a reminder, listings containing either the original 2015 Edition or 2015 Cures Update versions of criteria may be used.
To learn more about how to generate a CMS ID, refer to the “CMS EHR Certification ID Creation” section that begins on page 26 of the CHPL Public User Guide.
