When Izzy Lowell, MD, MBA, was starting out in family medicine, she wanted to open a university clinic focused on serving nonbinary and transgender people. She’d been cautioned that patient demand would be so minimal that the clinic could never survive, but almost immediately after its launch, she found herself at full capacity. Since then, Dr. Lowell has opened the telehealth-based practice QMed. She now provides care for transgender and gender nonconforming patients full time, across five states.

Family physician Izzy Lowell, MD, MBA, is based in Atlanta, and is the founder of QMed, a practice serving transgender patients across the southern U.S. She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed her training at the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency. She holds an MBA from Emory University Goizueta Business School.
