    Applications for this position are reviewed by the AAFP National Research Network Advisory Group and candidates are appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified by October 31.  

    American Family Physician (AFP) is the peer-reviewed and evidence-based clinical journal of the AAFP. AFP delivers concise clinical review articles for physicians and promotes family medicine. While AFP primarily focuses on established family physicians, the journal serves as a critical resource for residents. AFP provides relevant and concise content that serves as a resource for resident in-service training as well as board certification examinations. The AFP resident representative will serve as the advocate for resident interests and learning needs while promoting the journal to future family physicians.

    Responsibilities

    Term: January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

    • Represent resident interests and learning needs to the AFP Editor in Chief
    • Provide assistance and resident perspective on pertinent AFP articles and other media publications, including blog and video publications
    • Participate in 3-4 virtual meetings for review and editing
    • Promote dialogue and interest in AFP with residents via regular social media presence
    • Attend the AFP Editors Meeting, held just prior to the AAFP National Conference

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Demonstrated interest in AFP and medical editing
    • Demonstrated interest in writing about medicine and health care.
    • Endorsement from residency director to support application and participation.

    Time commitment away from medical school: 2-3 days

    Funding: AAFP will cover travel expenses for National Conference; AFP will cover any additional expenses related to the AFP Editor’s Meeting.
