• CMS seeking physician feedback on new MIPS cost measures

Physicians can provide feedback on five episode-based cost measures that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is testing for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) cost category.

CMS has been working with physicians and industry stakeholders to develop and field-test additional episode-based measures for MIPS. The measures now available for review are:

    • Emergency medicine
    • Heart failure
    • Low back pain
    • Major depressive disorder
    • Psychoses/related conditions

Physicians and groups who have at least 20 episodes for at least one of the measures will receive a Field Test Report. Reports are available on the Quality Payment Program website and more information about the reports is available in the Report Access User Guide on the MACRA Feedback Page. Regardless of whether you receive a Field Test Report, all stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on the draft measures through an online survey until 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 25.

More information can be found at 2022 Episode-Based Cost Measures Field Testing Wave 4 Measure Development Process. CMS is also hosting an office hours session 2:30-3:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 26. You can register here.
