Description
The Self Regional Healthcare Family Medicine Residency Program in Greenwood, SC, is a community-based program focusing on developing quality family physicians while providing outstanding patient care. All of the faculty are board certified in their specialty and hold faculty appointments at the Medical University of South Carolina. This allows utilization of university resources while still maintaining a small hospital feel.

Field experience
Most teams provide primary health care to include minor surgery and joint injections. Some teams conduct medical conferences or construct new clinics. Length of program is one week in Central and South America; two weeks in all other locations (Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia).
Didactics
No formal lectures, but residents work closely with board-certified family physicians and other specialists.

$1,500 to $3,500 depending on location (includes airfare, travel insurance, hotel accommodations, in-country meals, departure tax, and other in-country expenses except souvenirs purchased).
