AAFP membership for students
The AAFP is the place to be if you’d like to experience the family medicine speciality. And it’s free for medical students.
Whether your heart is set on family medicine or you're still exploring specialities, joining the AAFP means you gain a strong community with resources and support through medical school, the Match, residency and beyond. This membership is what you make it—you choose your level of involvement.

We're happy you want to know more! To join the AAFP as a student, you must be enrolled in an allopathic or osteopathic medical school that is:
- Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME); or
- Accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOA COCA); or
- Listed as operational in the then-current edition of the World Directory of Medical Schools
Because we want to share how special the family medicine specialty is, we don't require dues for national or chapter student membership. Student membership ends automatically when you graduate or withdraw from medical school. But there are membership options for every stage of your career, so it doesn't end there.
