    Congress of Delegates

    As the AAFP’s policy-making body, the Congress of Delegates consists of two delegates and two alternate delegates from each AAFP chapter and special constituencies. Any AAFP member can be involved in the COD’s annual meeting.

    The Board of Directors 

    The board of directors carries out activities and resolutions in between COD annual meetings and on behalf of the COD. Board members are selected by the COD. The board also includes one student member, one resident member, and one new physician member.

    AAFP Commissions

    Appointed by the board of directors, AAFP commissions make recommendations about policy, development of new programs, improvements and beyond. Commission members are nominated by state chapters.

    Student and resident leadership positions  

    The AAFP leans on resident and student members to contribute their unique voices via leadership roles. These roles provide the opportunity to:

    • Participate in the discussion of issues key to family medicine.
