NOTE: The AAFP sends two medical student members to the AMA Medical Student Section (MSS) to serve as the AAFP's delegates. Alternate delegates may consider applying for appointment as delegate the following year
The AMA House of Delegates (HOD) annually allocates delegate positions to state and specialty societies based on the number of their members that are also AMA members. The allocation is announced on or before February 1 of each year, and the delegate count is adjusted accordingly. Depending on the delegation size, there will be an opportunity for one MSS representative to also serve as a HOD delegate for the Annual and Interim meetings that year. This additional responsibility will require two or three extra days of service at the AMA HOD meeting. Travel expenses, including per-diem payment, will be provided by the AAFP. If an increase occurs, additional information will be provided by AAFP Medical Education staff.
Represent AAFP student interests at AMA HOD meetings and interact with AMA delegates from the AAFP.
Required elements of the application include: Letter of Interest, Letter of Chapter Support, Letter of Support from Program Director, and a Photo. Letters and forms can be uploaded or requested through the online application system. For detailed information on application materials, visit the How to Apply page. It is important to connect with your local AAFP chapter as soon as possible to express your interest in this position. This position is appointed by the AAFP Board of Directors after review and recommendation by a selection committee. Candidates are notified of the selection by September 30, 2022.
