AFP has been honored with awards for an article and an editorial published last year, adding to a growing list of editorial coups that we have received in the annual Excel Awards competition sponsored by the Society of National Association Publishers (SNAP). This year's winners were the article “Ambulatory Management of Burns,” which earned the Silver Award in the category of feature articles in scholarly journals, and the editorial “Caring for Caregivers,” which earned the Bronze award in the category of editorials in scholarly journals.

These entries were nominated by AFP's editorial staff, whose annual task of selecting award entries is quite an undertaking, considering the thousands of pages published in AFP each year and the hundreds of excellent contributions. After evaluating ratings of articles by medical editors and narrowing the field, the staff must come to agreement on a single entry. That an entry makes it all the way to nomination from the staff speaks volumes for the quality of the selection—and it's gratifying to think that a jury of our peers agrees, too.

That's why I hope you will take a minute to read or reread these award-winning pieces, and why I hope the authors will take a bow. Look in the November 1, 2000, issue for “Ambulatory Management of Burns,” by Eric D. Morgan, MAJ, MC, USA, Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Ga.; Scott C. Bledsoe, CPT, MC, USA, Weed Army Community Hospital, Fort Irwin, Calif.; and Jane Barker, CPT, MC, USA, Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, S.C. (don't forget that you can also find these pieces atwww.aafp.org/afp). The editorial “Caring for Caregivers,” by James O'Brien, M.D., University of Louisville, appeared in the December 15, 2000, issue.

But just what are the SNAP Excel Awards all about? SNAP is a nonprofit professional society serving the needs of association publishers and communications professionals. Their annual competition recognizes and rewards the publishing work of professional organizations like the AAFP. Hundreds of magazines, newsletters, scholarly journals, electronic publications and Web sites participate in the competition each year. This year's winners were selected from among 850 entries.

Other recent SNAP Excel awards that AFP has won include the Gold Award for general excellence, scholarly journals (2000 and 1995); the Silver Award in the category of editorials, scholarly journals (1995); the Bronze Award in the category of feature articles, scholarly journals (1995); and the Gold Award in the category of feature articles, scholarly journals (1994). Of course, AFP has earned many other honors over the years, and we are feeling lucky, indeed, but our biggest reward still comes from serving our readers well. Let us know how we are doing: write to us atafpedit@aafp.org.
