Browsing past issues of AFP online just got easier. On average, the AFP Web site (https://www.aafp.org/afp) is visited by approximately 60,000 readers each month. Recent surveys show that most visitors come to the site to print out an article, use the search engine to find articles on a particular topic, or browse previous issues. We are continually looking for ways to improve the site and to make the search and browse functions more user friendly.
We recently implemented a new system that makes accessing certain AFP departments from past issues a little easier. Once you have accessed a specific department in any issue, you now can access all articles that have appeared in that department simply by clicking on a new menu choice on the right side of your screen. Here’s an example that illustrates this new “department collections” function.
Suppose you are looking at one of the “Point-of-Care Guides” that appears in the January 15, 2006, issue (see Figure 1).
On the right side of your screen, you’ll see several options to access additional information and articles. One of those choices is “More in AFP.”
Under that heading, you’ll see “Point-of-Care Guides.” Clicking on that will bring you to a new screen that lists all the “Point-of-Care Guides” that have appeared in AFP.
You can easily scroll through the list of articles to see what has been published in this department and click to open any one that interests you. In the future, you will be able to access all department collections from the menu on the main AFP web page. Because of certain processing requirements related to the Web site, this new collections feature is not available for new issues until about two weeks after an issue has been posted. We hope to overcome that obstacle in the near future.
