  1. Discuss the appropriate evaluation of a child who has been placed in foster care, including evaluation for signs of abuse and neglect, how well the child is adjusting to the foster home, and whether there is need for referrals.

  2. Describe supportive and educational sources for the adults providing foster care for children.

  3. Summarize the appropriate evaluation of a child who has been adopted, including a review of medical conditions, evaluation for adverse childhood experiences, and an assessment for developmental milestones; for children who have been adopted from another country, summarize appropriate screenings for infectious diseases and evaluate the need for assistance with learning a new language.

  4. Describe modifications to your office and communication that might be necessary to create a more welcoming environment to all patients, including LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/agender, and other orientations/identities) patients.

  5. Provide counseling, or referral for counseling, for youths and young adults experiencing gender dysphoria.

  6. Identify, screen, and provide counseling support for potential adverse effects (eg, obesity, substance use, sexual risk-taking, mental illness) that may be more common in children raised in nonnuclear families.

  7. Use appropriate word choices to identify the role of individuals accompanying children at health care visits.

  8. Discuss the two main forms of assisted reproduction (ie, intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization) along with their expected success rates.
