  • Summarize the diagnostic scoring criteria for fibromyalgia.

  • Describe nonpharmacotherapies for fibromyalgia management, including patient education, exercise, and psychological therapies.

  • Identify trigger points in patients with myofascial pain syndrome (MPS).

  • Recommend manual therapy and dry needling for MPS management.

  • Diagnose patients with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) using the Budapest Criteria.

  • Recommend rehabilitation and physical therapy early in the course of CRPS.

  • Prescribe nonopioid drugs (ie, topical drugs, gabapentinoids, tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) in conjunction with nonpharmacotherapies as first-line therapy for neuropathic pain.

  • Evaluate treatment response in patients with neuropathic pain using validated instruments, such as the Neuropathic Pain Scale (NPS) or the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ).
