Last week, Anthem, one of the nation’s largest commercial health plans, notified the American Medical Association that it has decided to rescind a policy to reduce payments by 25 percent for evaluation and management codes appropriately reported with CPT modifier 25. The policy was slated to take effect on March 1, 2018, across Anthem’s commercial health insurance businesses. Anthem will provide formal notification to its contracted providers regarding its decision on modifier 25.
