Amerigroup rebranding to "Wellpoint" in six states

Insurance company Elevance Health will soon begin rebranding its Amerigroup plans, which serve Medicaid and Medicare enrollees. Following regulatory approval, the new name “Wellpoint” will take effect in Arizona, Iowa, New Jersey, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, and members will receive new cards reflecting the change. It’s not clear when or if the name will change in the three other states where Elevance operates Amerigroup plans (Washington, D.C., Georgia, and New Mexico).

Elevance itself went through a rebranding last year, switching from its longtime name of “Anthem.” The company says the coming rebrand of its Amerigroup subsidiary will not impact members’ benefits, coverage, or established provider networks. The company also says physicians who serve Wellpoint members will have continued access to tools and resources to help streamline day-to-day administrative tasks.

While benefits and coverage may not be changing, FAQ pages from four states (Arizona, New Jersey, Texas, and Washington) noted website and provider service line phone number changes that physicians should be aware of.

If you have questions regarding these changes, you can contact provider services by reviewing your state’s FAQ or by selecting your state on this Amerigroup page and scrolling down to “Contact Us.”
