Still time to review and dispute your 2023 Open Payments data

Physicians have until Dec. 31 to review and affirm or dispute their 2023 Open Payments data before it is republished next year. Open Payments is a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) program that collects and publishes information from drug and medical device companies ("reporting entities") about their compensation to physicians and other health care providers ("covered recipients"). This includes payments for research, meals, travel, gifts, speaking fees, or other compensation.

The 2023 data was initially published in June. Physicians had until May 15 to dispute their data before it went public. Now that it is public, physicians have until Dec. 31 to request that any inaccuracies be corrected before the data is refreshed.

CMS is rolling out new software this year for reviewing and disputing data. Open Payments System 2.0 includes enhancements (PDF) intended to modernize the system and provide a more user-friendly experience. As a result, Open Payments data is no longer available for review through the CMS Enterprise Portal. Instead, you will need to use the new URL: https://openpayments.system.cms.gov/

Previous users can access their data using existing login credentials. New users will need to click “new user registration” to register.
