The Medicare Quality Payment Program: Four things to do now

The following steps will help you to participate more successfully in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) track of the Medicare Quality Payment Program:

1. Report at least one quality measure for 2017. The deadline is March 31, 2018.

2. Select which quality measures you plan to report for 2018. (For a full list of measures, go to https://www.qpp.cms.gov/mips/quality-measures.)

3. Find one or two things you are already doing that would count as “highly weighted” under the Improvement Activities category, such as checking your state’s prescription drug monitoring program before prescribing any opioid. 4. Enlist the help of your office staff. Resources like the AAFP MIPS Playbook provide a step-by-step guide.
