App review: Aspirin Guide

A mobile app developed by researchers at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital can help you quickly determine whether a patient is a good candidate for low-dose aspirin therapy.

Aspirin Guide (available for Android or iOS) uses data you enter to calculate the patient’s 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk and bleeding risk scores as well as the number needed to harm and the number needed to treat. It then provides an easily understood guidance statement advising for or against low-dose aspirin treatment, which you can send to yourself or the patient. The process takes a few minutes the first time but goes faster the more you use the app.
