A quick reminder about flu shot billing

Medicare covers influenza immunizations as soon as new seasonal vaccines are received. If you provide a flu shot before Aug. 1, when the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issues seasonal vaccine payment allowances, claims may be paid at the prior influenza season’s rates. Medicare covers influenza immunization at least once per influenza season; a second immunization may be covered as well if it is medically necessary. Be sure to check your Medicare administrative contractor’s instructions regarding billing and payment for new influenza vaccines.
