Become a Global Health Summit Scholar
The AAFP’s Center for Global Health Initiatives, in collaboration with AAFP Foundation, seeks US-based students, residents, and colleagues in low- and middle-income countries to apply for the Global Health Summit (GHS) Scholarship Fund. Scholars will attend GHS and co-present work in their area.

Official scholarship funding categories and guidelines are detailed below. Applications must be submitted by May 24.
Student
Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must complete an online application that includes three essay question(s). You must be a M1–M4 student during the current academic year. Application process closes by May 24, 2024.
Resident
Residents who wish to apply for this scholarship must complete an online application that includes three essay question(s). You must be a PGY1–PGY4 resident during the current academic year. Application process closes by May 24, 2024.
International Attendee
Colleagues in low- and middle-income countries who wish to apply for this scholarship must complete an online application that includes three essay question(s). Application process closes by May 24, 2024.
Scholarship Information
- The number of scholarships in each category varies year to year depending on the funding level and number of applicants.
- Scholarship recipients are selected by a panel of judges.
- All scholarship recipients will receive a $500 scholarship to cover costs associated with attending Global Health Summit.
- All scholarship checks will be dispersed following the Global Health Summit. If you are unable to attend the conference, your scholarship will be forfeited.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be an AAFP member (student and resident category only).
- You are not eligible to apply if you previously received a Global Health Summit scholarship from the AAFP.
- Must be able to attend the full 1.5 days of the Global Health Summit.
Submission Guidelines
It is required that you have all items listed below ready and in the required format before starting your online application.

- Please review all auto-populated data and provide a personal email address as medical school/residency email systems often have spam filters/firewalls that hamper the receipt of external emails.
- You are encouraged to give considerable thought to the essay questions and draft your answers in a separate document prior to beginning your application.
- Essay Question(s):
- What are you passionate about as it relates to family medicine?
- What have you done to promote the spirit of the specialty and its role in global health? (i.e., community service, research, advocacy, etc.)
- What are your goals as a future physician and how will attending GHS help you further achieve them?

The online application must be completed and submitted by May 24, 2024. Winners will be notified by July 1, 2024.
