It's time to submit data for MIPS performance year 2023
Update (3/14/2024): The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has extended the MIPS reporting deadline to 8 p.m. ET on April 15, 2024.
Practices have until 8 pm ET on April 1 to submit their data for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) 2023 performance year. Failure to submit data will result in a 9% reduction on their Medicare Part B claims in 2025. If you are unsure if you are required to report to MIPS, you can look up your eligibility using the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Participation Status Tool.
Users can submit data by logging in to the QPP website using their HCQIS Authorization Roles and Profile (HARP) account. Information on how to enroll with HARP can be found in the QPP Access User Guide and the HARP YouTube Playlist.
One change in this year’s submission process is that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will no longer provide preliminary feedback. CMS is also offering additional ways to receive assistance. To avoid long waits, you can schedule a call, submit a ticket to request support, or contact the support center via chat. CMS requests that you only use one method to report each issue.
More information is available on the QPP website and in the following downloadable PDFs:
- 2023 Traditional MIPS Data Submission User Guide
- 2023 MIPS Value Pathways Data Submission User Guide
- 2023 Alternative Payment Model Performance Pathway Data Submission User Guide
- QPP JSON Template and Instructions.
Practices are encouraged to submit data early to ensure enough time to address any issues. You can also review your initial MIPS Eligibility Status for the 2024 performance year using the QPP Participation Status Tool.
