CMS extends deadline to submit MIPS data
Updated (3/15/24): The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is offering MIPS reporting relief to physicians affected by the Change Healthcare cyberattack through the extreme and uncontrollable circumstances exception.
Physicians have a couple extra weeks to send their 2023 Medicare quality data. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended the deadline for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) from April 1 to April 15 at 8 p.m. ET.
As part of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), eligible clinicians must report data to CMS or they will incur a 9% payment cut to Medicare Part B claims in 2025. Physicians can submit 2023 data or review data submitted on their behalf by logging into the Quality Payment Program website. Data cannot be corrected after it has been submitted, so make sure everything is accurate before you submit.
Additional resources are available in the QPP Resource Library, including the following:
- Changes to 2023 Data Submission Experience Fact Sheet (PDF),
- 2023 Traditional MIPS Data Submission User Guide (PDF),
- 2023 MVPs Data Submission User Guide (PDF),
- 2023 APP Data Submission User Guide (PDF),
- 2023 QPP JSON Templates and Instructions (ZIP),
- Quality Payment Program Access User Guide (ZIP),
- 2023 CMS Web Interface FAQs (PDF),
- 2023 CMS Web Interface User Guide (PDF).
CMS expects an increase in QPP Service Center hold times. To minimize wait times, CMS allows you to schedule a call. You can also submit a ticket for support. Cases are processed in the order in which they are received. CMS requests that you only use one method to report the same issue.
