New codes launch for monkeypox lab testing, vaccination
In response to the ongoing spread of the monkeypox virus, the American Medical Association (AMA) has released coding guidance for laboratory testing and vaccine administration. The new codes are effective for immediate use. The laboratory test describes the molecular diagnostic testing that detects the nucleic signature of an orthopoxvirus, while the vaccine codes describe the two smallpox and monkeypox virus products currently available.
