AAFPs 2025 Future conference, family medicine cares foundation

The FUTURE Planning Committee is seeking educational programming ideas for allopathic and osteopathic students and residents that showcase the broad scope of family medicine. You’re invited to submit one or more workshop proposals in any of the categories below.

Workshop information

Attendees are interested in interactive formats, innovative ways of learning about family medicine and topics they may not generally be exposed to as part of their medical school or residency training.

Workshops will focus on these content tracks:

  • Career Planning
  • Skills and Research
  • Policy and Advocacy

Sessions should include no more than four total presenters.

Please note that workshops may not be used as a forum for advertising specific programs, products or services.


How to submit a proposal

Log in to the AAFP proposal submission website.

Members may log in using their AAFP ID. Not a member? Call (800) 274-2237 or create an AAFP account to obtain the required credentials to submit an application. Login credentials may take one week to process; please plan accordingly, as late applications will not be accepted.

Enter proposal information. You may save and return to your proposal anytime until the September 23 deadline.

Be prepared to enter contact information for each co-presenter, including name, designation, primary job title/organization, AAFP ID, email, address and phone. Workshops should include no more than four total presenters.

You must designate one primary presenter. Only one individual may serve in this role.

By submitting this proposal, the primary presenter agrees to:

  • Serve as the main contact for the workshop.
  • Receive all communications from the AAFP using the contact information provided in the submission.
  • Complete and return all required documents and disclosures by the specified deadlines.
  • Communicate all proposal and presentation information to any co-presenters.

Please review the following workshop criteria to help prepare your proposal.

  • Workshop title
  • Abstract/description
    Provide a concise description (approx. 100-150 words) focused on benefits to attendees; write as you would have it appear in the conference program, in third person present tense.
  • Learning objectives
    List up to four learning objectives that clearly describe the workshop's intended outcomes and the skills or knowledge participants are expected to gain.
  • Methodology
    Outline planned activities that make this session unique.
  • Track
    Select one of the following content tracks.
    o Career Planning
    o Skills and Research
    o Policy and Advocacy

    Select the primary format of your workshop.

    Content must be specific to medical students and/or residents and the specialty of family medicine. While workshops are open to all attendees, please select your primary audience and secondary audience(s).

  • Room setup
    Room assignments are based on spacing and scheduling considerations; setup preferences will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
  • Audio visual needs
    All rooms will be set with a laptop, data projector, screen and microphone. Additional reasonable audio visual and room requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
  • Request for honorarium
    If honorarium is requested, the rates per workshop are as follows:
    o 45 minutes: $450 if workshop is delivered once or $600 if delivered twice.
    o 75 minutes: $750 if workshop is delivered once or $1,000 if delivered twice.

    Number of times delivered will be determined by the AAFP based on room availability and other scheduling considerations.

The FUTURE Conference Planning Committee will evaluate each workshop proposal on the following:

  • Value of topic to medical students and residents
  • Relevance to family medicine
  • Quality of learning objectives
  • Use of learning format/tools to encourage audience interaction
  • Demonstration of evidence-based medicine
  • Speaker credentials
  • Past speaker ratings (if applicable)
  • Overall quality of proposal
  • Alignment with conference programming goals

Proposal notification

Workshop applications will undergo a multi-step review process. Notifications will be sent to all submitters in Spring 2027.
