What to ask residency programs

AAFPs 2025 Future conference, expo hall

Career-making connections with family medicine residency programs.

More than 450 family medicine programs pack our Expo Hall floor, and every one of them is excited to talk to YOU. Start a conversation with the programs you’ve had your eye on or discover who else might be right for you. You’ll also find residents who can relate to your journey.

This is your time to find a perfect fit before moving into application season. It’s low pressure but could have a huge impact on your medical career.

How program visits work

You’ll see the friendly faces of program representatives at each booth. Reps are typically current staff, residents and faculty, including program directors. These are the same people you’ll meet during residency interviews, but the interactions at FUTURE are much more casual. This is your time to research.

It’s not unusual to chat with a program for 30 minutes or stop by multiple times. Just allow yourself enough time to have meaningful conversations with the programs that interest you.

Three steps to prep

  • List what you want out of a residency program.
  • Jot down the questions you need to ask to find your perfect fit.
  • On-site: Use the Expo Hall map or exhibitor list to easily find programs. The FUTURE mobile app has these too!
