    Your Input Moves Us Forward

    Our annual Member Satisfaction Survey is an opportunity for you to share the areas where the AAFP is serving you well, where you need more support and new things you want us to focus on. This ensures our time and energy are spent making the most difference for you and the specialty of family medicine. Here’s what you said this year about the Academy and our work to help you deliver the best health care as we advance the specialty of family medicine.

    Happy to Be With Us

    You told us that membership is valuable for you and the specialty as a whole, with notable growth in satisfaction compared to 2017.

    • 84% say AAFP membership is important — up seven points!
    • 82% would recommend AAFP membership to your fellow family physicians — up 12 points!
    • 79% are satisfied or very satisfied with membership. That’s up 12 points!

    Strong Together

    The AAFP works hard to provide you a wide range of support so you’re successful. From clinical guidelines to CME to practice management support to influence on Capitol Hill, we make sure you have what you need to care for your patients and communities. And thanks to our ongoing work to demonstrate the value of family physicians to the public, 71% of you reported seeing your fellow FPs sharing their expertise in the media. You also shared other key efforts where we are doing a good job and delivering the value you need and expect — all up four points from 2020:     

    • 77% point to our work to advance the specialty of family medicine.
    • 76% highlight solutions we provide that enhance patient care.
    • 70% applaud the way we strengthen members’ collective voice.

    Working for You

    You turn to the AAFP because you know that you can depend on us to deliver the most relevant information and fight for important wins. This includes driving administrative simplification and Fighting for Family Medicine with policymakers so that you can focus on what matters most…your patients. We are humbled by the trust you put in us and your view on how we are doing:

    • 93% of you — and 95% of residents — call us a trusted source of information. That’s an increase of seven points for all surveyed members since 2017!
    • 85% say we do a good job communicating with you — an 11-point jump since 2017!
    • 76% see us as a bold champion for family medicine. That’s 13 points higher compared to 2017!

    Shaping the Future

    Because you need a constant, strong champion to protect your interests as a family physician and provide you the tools and resources you need to serve patients, we’re always looking for opportunities to improve the way we support you.  Your feedback drives our focus, and this year, you outlined the following priorities that will drive much of our work on your behalf throughout the year:

    • Increase overall payment.
    • Reduce administrative burden.
    • Protect your interests with regard to non-physician providers.
    • Advocate for health care system and payment models that value primary care.
