How do I contact AFP?
To suggest an article topic, follow up on something you've read in American Family Physician (AFP), or simply ask a question, contact the editors at afpjournal@aafp.org or get additional contact information.
What is AFP?
AFP is a monthly, editorially independent, peer-reviewed clinical journal of the American Academy of Family Physicians. AFP’s chief objective is to provide high-quality, evidence-based information and continuing medical education for more than 180,000 family physicians and other primary care clinicians.
How do I subscribe to the print edition?
Subscription information is available online or by calling 800-274-2237.
How do I change the address on my subscription AFP?
To receive your journal at a new address, you must notify us of your change of address at least six weeks in advance to ensure uninterrupted delivery of AFP. Email your address change to the AAFP Member Resource Center, call 800-274-2237 or 913-906-6000.
Can I purchase back issues?
Yes. Prices vary depending on the number of back issues you'd like to order. Get more information about purchasing back issues.
Is the AFP website open to anyone?
Yes, but online access to new issues is restricted to AAFP members and paid subscribers. The content of each issue is made freely available two years after publication. For access to restricted content, please consider subscribing to the journal, joining the AAFP, or purchasing access to a single issue online.
How do I submit an article to AFP?
For specific information about what types of articles we're interested in, how to submit an article, how we select articles for publication, and how our editing process works, see our Authors' Guide.
If I submit an article to AFP, when will I know if it has been accepted? If accepted, how will I know when it will be published?
The time from submission to initial decision is typically about eight weeks, although revision requests may lengthen the process. The time from acceptance to publication can vary from a few months to one year. For more information about this process, see our Authors' Guide.
Can I receive CME credit for reading AFP?
Anyone receiving AFP in their own name can complete the CME quiz online to earn CME credit for each issue of AFP. Quizzes for the past year are available online.
Does AFP have an editorial calendar?
No, AFP does not publish an editorial calendar.
What is AFP's impact factor?
We do not publish original research; therefore, we do not track the impact factor. Original research is published in Annals of Family Medicine, http://www.annfammed.org/.
Who should I notify if I experience technical problems on AFP's website?
Please contact the AAFP Member Resource Center, and a representative from the AAFP’s technical support staff will get in touch with you to solve the problem.
