    Amy Hoffman

    Amy Hoffman, a fourth-year medical student at the Penn State College of Medicine-University Park Campus, State College, Pennsylvania, serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 130,000 physicians and medical students nationwide. Hoffman was elected to a one-year term by the National Conference of Medical Students and was confirmed by the governing body of the AAFP, the Congress of Delegates.

    As the student member of the board of directors, Hoffman represents the interests and opinions of the National Conference of Students to the AAFP Board of Directors and Congress of Delegates. In addition, she advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system.

    Hoffman has taken on leadership roles throughout her medical school career. She served as the student member on the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors and also on the PAFP’s Governance and Practicing Advocacy Committee for two years. She served as the student member to the AAFP Commission on Federal and State Policy where she helped shape the voice of the AAFP by working on a position paper on policing standards, public health implications, and investment in social services. Hoffman has participated in the AAFP’s Primary Care Leadership Collaborative and the Emerging Leaders Institute.

    At Penn State, Hoffman volunteers at the free, student-run clinic, LionCare, caring for underserved residents of rural central Pennsylvania. As a Global Health Scholar, she has traveled to Ghana to learn about health care systems and policy. She is currently implementing a culinary medicine curriculum to teach others about safe, economical, and culturally appropriate meal preparation to promote health. 

    Hoffman earned her two Bachelor of Arts degrees in biological sciences and health administration and policy at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. She is currently working toward her medical degree at Penn State College of Medicine-University Park Campus, in State College.
