    Tracy Hendershot, DC, MD, FAAFP

    Tracy Hendershot, DC, MD, FAAFP, is a family physician in Parkersburg, West Virginia and is a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 128,300 physicians and medical students nationwide. As an AAFP board member, Dr. Hendershot advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system. 

    Dr. Hendershot practices family medicine at West Virginia University Medicine, providing care in various settings, from the newborn nursery to skilled nursing facilities. He is passionate about providing comprehensive care to his rural community.

    During medical school, Dr. Hendershot collaborated with residency leadership to develop the Paul Ambrose Health Policy Fellowship. As the inaugural fellow, he gained valuable experience in policy development and advocacy, focusing on state-level health policy, particularly elder care. After residency, Dr. Hendershot returned to his home community to serve as CMO of the Coplin Clinic, a rural FQHC system. During his tenure, he successfully advocated for legislation that led to the construction of the only skilled nursing facility in Wirt County, West Virginia. 

    Dr. Hendershot has served as president of the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians (WVAFP), legislative chair of the WVAFP and delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. He currently serves on the FamMedPAC Board and the AAFP Commission on Finance and Insurance. 

    He attended Marshall University and Palmer College of Chiropractic. Shortly after he opened a private chiropractic practice, his daughter was born, prompting him to return to Marshall University for medical school and residency.
