Jane Simpson, DO, a family physician practicing in Watertown, New York, is the new physician member of the Board of Directors. The AAFP represents 128,300 physicians and medical students nationwide. Dr. Simpson was elected to a one-year term by the New Physician constituency during the AAFP National Conference of Constituency Leaders and was confirmed by the AAFP’s governing body, the Congress of Delegates.
A new physician is a doctor in the first seven years of practice following residency completion. As the new physician member of the board of directors, Dr. Simpson represents the interests and opinions of the new physician constituency to the board and the Congress of Delegates. She also advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system.
With her late grandfather serving as a doctor in his community, Dr. Simpson has a unique understanding and deep appreciation for rural medicine.
Dr. Simpson is also involved in the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American Medical Association and currently serves as the Medical Society of the State of New York Vice Speaker.
Dr. Simpson earned her undergraduate degree from Clarkson University where her love of science and people led her to medical school at The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine at Virginia Tech. After medical school, Dr. Simpson continued her education through residency at United Health Services in Binghamton, New York, fellowship at Brown University in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
