Am Fam Physician. 2002;66(4):546

If you haven't visited the Web site of the American Academy of Family Physicians lately, you may be pleasantly surprised when you find a new look. A redesigned Web site was launched on July 1 and includes a sleeker home page for AFP. The new site was designed with ease of navigation, better organization, and improved search capability as primary goals. Now readers can reach AFP from the AAFP home page in only one click. Just go towww.aafp.org for easy access to all of your favorite AAFP publications. You may want to place a bookmark atwww.aafp.org/afp, but don't forget to visit the other parts of the AAFP Web site.

The complete text of AFP is available online for publications from mid-1997 through the current issue. For issues originally published in late 1996 and the early part of 1997, partial materials are available. Since the AFP Web site now contains complete text for issues published during the past five years, the annual CD-ROM update for AFP has been discontinued. Future development efforts will be focused on bringing new features and enhancements to the AFP Web site.

Since AFP is a continuing medical education (CME) journal that covers a whole curriculum in family medicine, the cumulative addition of AFP issues online mounts to a virtual textbook of medicine. Editor Jay Siwek, M.D., has come to think of AFP online as a textbook that continually renews and expands itself. Future online efforts will include development of navigational tools to help readers browse through particular topics of interest and quickly locate materials on related topics.

AFP already offers considerable value in its online version. AAFP members may take the “Clinical Quiz” online and submit their answers for credit. The online quiz option provides a convenient way of earning CME at an economical price. If you haven't been earning CME through AFP, you may be missing out on a great opportunity. Readers may earn over 75 hours of CME per year by completing AFP's “Clinical Quiz.” If you have been stockpiling your quiz cards, you may want to try submitting your answers online instead. The quiz is available atwww.aafp.org/afp/afpquiz.html, and credit is available for up to one year after the issue is published. AFP monographs and AFP case studies are also available online and offer CME credit.
