Clinical Procedural Skills, Support

Courses that teach procedural hands-on skills and knowledge are important to family physicians seeking to perform procedures. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) aims to work collaboratively with other specialty societies, when appropriate, concerning issues of procedural skills, including, but not limited to: training, privileging, credentialing and joint advocacy.

The AAFP recommends hospitals and health care organizations assign family physicians to serve as preceptors/proctors with clinical privileges in the procedure(s) being sought.
