Breastfeeding Medicine Member Interest Group

The Breastfeeding Member Interest Group (MIG) promotes AAFP member knowledge of breastfeeding medicine and provides ongoing support for AAFP members taking care of breastfeeding families.

Who can join this MIG

Participation is open to any AAFP member interested in or seeking to learn more about breastfeeding medicine.

Breastfeeding Medicine MIG objectives

Promote evidence-based care for breastfeeding mothers and infants/toddlers/children.
Foster support through networking for AAFP members incorporating breastfeeding medicine in practice.
Provide and advocate for enhanced educational resources for AAFP members who would like to learn more about breastfeeding medicine.
Empower patients to succeed in their breastfeeding goals.
Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment and retention of family physicians engaged in breastfeeding medicine

Long-term MIG goals

Enhance AAFP member knowledge of breastfeeding medicine
Provide ongoing support for AAFP Members taking care of breastfeeding families
Provide and advocate for enhanced educational resources for AAFP members regarding breastfeeding medicine
Create both introductory and advanced medical student/resident educational materials for those who have/have not declared a focus in family medicine that can be taught on family medicine rotations
Advocate for breastfeeding policy on local and national levels
Empower patients to succeed in their breastfeeding goals
Equip Family Physicians to be a recognized resource by other medical specialties/health professionals to address questions regarding breastfeeding medicine
