Direct Primary Care Member Interest Group

Established: July 2014

The Direct Primary Care Member Interest Group (MIG) increases awareness of the DPC model among family physicians and advocates for AAFP members who are currently practicing in this model or anticipate transitioning to it when you join the Direct Primary Care Member Interest Group (MIG). Members will create resources and find education and a supportive community within the AAFP for physicians interested in direct care relationships with patients.

Who can join this MIG

Participation is open to any AAFP member interested in or seeking to learn more about direct primary care.

Direct Primary Care MIG objectives

Continue to grow and strengthen DPC Summit in collaboration with partner organizations.
Sustain and expand MIG membership engagement.
Support DPC-curious physicians, residents, and medical students with resources, mentorship, and education.
Continue refinement and expansion of the AAFP DPC Toolkit.
Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment and retention of family physicians who practice in a DPC model.

Long-term MIG goals

Provide education, guidance, and mentorship for learners and physicians exploring Direct Primary Care.
Maintain and evolve the AAFP DPC Toolkit as a comprehensive and trusted resource.
Help AAFP better understand the needs of physicians practicing in or transitioning into DPC models.
Explore innovations emerging in DPC practices that could inform broader primary-care transformation, particularly around access, cost transparency, and physician well-being
