Physicians for Life Member Interest Group
Established: April 2020
The Physicians for Life Member Interest Group (MIG) provides a forum for pro-life members to collaborate and advance the education of members on beginning and end of life issues within the AAFP.
Who can join this MIG
Participation is open to any AAFP member interested in or seeking to learn more about beginning and end of life issues.
Physicians for Life MIG objectives
- Assist the AAFP in membership recruitment/retention of family physicians with shared professional interest.
- Advocate for evidence-based AAFP CME and other professional activities from a pro-life perspective
- Provide a forum for members to become educated in managing requests from patients for assistance with dying.
- Deliver a unified message to AAFP leadership regarding full spectrum of life cycle issues from a pro-life perspective.
- Provide a forum for pro-life members to collaborate and to effect change.
- Advocate for training in full spectrum of life cycle issues as a part of the family medicine resident curriculum from a pro-life perspective.
- Serve as a resource for students and residents on full spectrum of life issues to include pro-life options for treatment.
- Provide members of the AAFP an opportunity to present a pro-life position to achieve balanced discussion and effect change in advocacy and representative policy on abortion and end of life issues.
Long-term MIG goals
- The primary goal would be to advance the education of members on beginning and end of life issues within the AAFP.
- A secondary goal would be to create leaders within the AAFP from this group of physicians.
- Generate balanced and bipartisan AAFP policy on abortion and end-of-life issues.
- Create a collegial collaboration between the pro-life and pro-choice perspectives of our organization.
